Kathy and Ian at Greenpoint Loft

Kathy and Ian had a great vision for their wedding at the Greenpoint Loft. They utilized a cohesive heart theme with delicate gold accents. We created bud vase arrangements in gold painted vases (done by the B&G themselves in our back yard!), as well as a lit-up chuppah and lush bouquet florals.

Congratulations to this amazing couple...and see you around the neighborhood!

SSRC, DUMBO, Brooklyn

At Rosehip we generally design wedding arrangements--we love what we do!--but we were super excited to put together these centerpieces for the Social Science Research Council’s (SSRC) annual gala event.

Design for conferences and corporate events has a very different vibe than design for wedding: Weddings are about romance, love, family, and the personality of the couple, while corporate events focus more on company vision and style.  Needless to say, these themes produce palpably different results and the variety is great fun for floral designers.

For the SSRC event, we produced spring-themed flower arrangements.  We focused on clean lines and bright citrus-color accents, with just a touch of asymmetry and draping greens: the results were fun fresh arrangements that were sleek and streamlined without being stuffy.

We included crisp white hydrangea, energetic-looking pincushion protheas, soft dianthus barbatus, sunny craspedia, roses, white chrysanthemum, and some really mouthwatering looking kumquats.

The centerpieces truly brightened up the boardroom and reflected the SSRC’s relevance and energy.

Charlotte and Scott, the American Yacht Club

The American Yacht Club is an 120-year-old Long Island mainstay.  Founded in May of 1883, it is the 4th oldest yacht club in the United States.  It is endowed with the quiet grace and self confidence of old, well-run establishments.  Bride Charlotte grew up in and around the American Yacht Club and this, along with its pristine elegance, made it the perfect location for her sophisticated wedding.

Charlotte and Scott sought a clean, classic style that matched the setting of their wedding without being too “nautical” or overly formal.  They chose a white and ivory color palette with accents of vendela rose pale blush and a variety of herbs. Dark and vibrant greens enhanced the crisp look of the design.

Charlotte’s bouquet featured white ranunculus, peonies, blush roses, amaryllis, freesia buds, and two sprigs of lavender towards the back (a family tradition).  The blend of classic style with garden earthiness was the perfect reflection of this couple’s personality.

2014-06-22 21.54.40.jpg

The bridesmaid bouquets were slightly more petite with the same design aesthetic as Charlotte’s.  They stood out brilliantly against the vibrant, summery guava pink of the bridesmaids’ gowns.

We tied a cheerful green ribbon all the way down Scott’s white ranunculus, freesia, and lemon leaf greenery boutonniere. The groomsmen’s boutonnieres were similar in design to the Scott’s, but featured freesia buds instead of open flowers.

We decorated the aisle ends with hydrangea, greenery, and long, draping organza ribbon.

Finally, we created two different centerpiece arrangements: one featured green dianthus and mint in three small mirrored cubes for a touch of freshness; the other included a silvery chalice vase bursting with hydrangea, ranunculus, peonies, roses, hypericum, anemones, green dianthus, and accents of herbs and lavender.

The detail-oriented design fit perfectly in the graceful yacht club setting and highlighted the couple’s sophistication--and their playfulness.

Congratulations again to Charlotte and Scott!

XOXO,

Pola

Allyson and Joe at reBar

Who could have imagined, but this was the last of our weddings to take place at reBar, and Allyson and Joe made sure that it was quite a farewell party!

Here are some glorious photos courtesy of Clean Plate Photography...check out the whole gallery here

Allyson was interested in incorporating various shades of purple and plum into the flower color palette. As interesting accents we used vintage shoe clips to adorn the boutonnieres and lace from the dresses of the Mother and Grandmother of the Bride.

Congratulations to this amazing and talented couple!

Deep plum toned flowers for Lovesick!

Deep plum toned flowers for Lovesick!

Recently, we had the opportunity to feature some of our flowers and decorative items at the Lovesick Wedding Expo held at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. This was our third year attending and the experience, as in prior years, was such a pleasure.

We met lots of couples who will be getting married this year and some who are even planning their 2015 nuptials!

Dark berry and peach toned centerpiece, featuring dark anemones, ranunculus, berries, garden roses, amnesia roses, berries, and magnolia leaves.

For the expo, we put together several different types of arrangements: bouquets, centerpieces, bud vases, wreaths, bouts, etc. We draped an arch with lemon leaf and hung mirrored glass votive holders. A DIY antiqued mirror and silk taffeta table cloth overlay spruced up the overall display.

To go with something a bit different, we chose a darker “berry toned” color scheme which included blooms in shades of purple, pink, plum, blush pink and peach. They were accented with plump berries and delicate umbrella ferns.

During conversations with couples attending the Lovesick Expo, there were a couple of questions repeatedly asked. What makes Rosehip Floral so special? Why should an engaged couple choose to work with Rosehip Floral? The paragraphs that follow outline what we consider to be our strengths and, hopefully, the reasons you will allow us to help make your wedding day perfectly lovely and the best it can be!

Experience and Education

  • Our educational background includes the New York Flower School and the New York Botanical Garden’s Floral Design Program. We’ve freelanced for other flower and event decorating companies and have the experience of 100+ weddings under our belt. Because of these experiences, we understand the critical roles timing, logistics and accommodation play to insure that things will go smoothly and everyone will work well together. We are skilled regarding set-up timing, delivery schedules, coordination with venue personnel and other vendors, and accounting for seasonal factors that might call for adjustments and back-up plans.

Floral Arrangements

  • Our flower arrangements are different and have style. We work to create unique, interesting and textured arrangements that fall between “English garden” and “urban rustic”. Each wedding floral design plan is completely customized, based on the client’s vision and inspiration. Your flowers will arrive on time and look beautiful and fresh throughout the day.

Consultation and Communication

  • In an attempt to choose the overall design (the ‘look’ and ‘feel’) for your wedding event, you may be overwhelmed by all the inspiring pins and blog pics from your search. Fear not, during our chat we can help you streamline these ideas and inspirations and suggests additional options so that your final choices go well together and reflect you.
  • We stay in touch with our clients throughout their wedding planning and are ready to provide help should  they need to make changes or modifications to the initial plan. Although we are not wedding planners, we have been ‘attending’ weddings for years and can offer advice about what seems to work best. Candles for your cocktail hour? Ceremony location? Contents for a welcome bag or bathroom care package? We’re there to help, so just ask.

Fair Pricing

  • We are sensitive to the fact that your budget is an important consideration. The prices we charge depend on the type of flowers you select (high-end vs. mid-range vs. economical), the size and complexity of the arrangement and the vase. We don’t have a minimum budget requirement, only an order size minimum of 5 floral arrangements.
  • If your dream look is a budget buster, we will work with you to modify your plan without compromising the key design elements. Our proposal quotes are detailed, so there are no mystery or surprise.

Bonus Florist Services

  • At Rosehip, our services are not limited to just making the floral arrangements. We also build chuppas and arches, make display boxes, design displays for place cards, paint signage, print table numbers, and customize tablescapes. We can source vases, boxes and decorative details at flea markets and antique shops. When working with us, you can be assured that if you forgot or ran out of time to make that welcoming sign or print and frame those family photos, we will be available to help. We want your wedding to be a complete success and will make every effort we can to see that it is!
  • We’re also always open to helping you with the DIY projects if you just need help with set-up. Or if you love flea market and antique shop shopping, and would love to supply your own vases, gift boxes, or place card display…we’re always more than happy to give you a bit of guidance and we’re open to using whatever you’d like.

We want your wedding to look good as much as you do, so whatever it takes!

It’s quite a show…lots of cool wedding vendors, cash bar, bands and even a burlesque lady or two.

Hope to see you there!

Who says you can’t have peonies in December?

For the first time ever, my husband and I hosted a big dinner this holiday season…with LOTS of help from parents, in-laws, siblings and in-law-siblings, obviously. ;)

The table decor needed to be slightly “restrained” in order to account for the various glasses, platters, plates, and food being passed around. As such, several short arrangements did the trick!

Visiting my favorite boys in the flower district, I was able to score a few bunches of gorgeous dark red roses (called Black Baccara…oooo!) and red peonies (!!!). Amazing luck.

I accented the blooms with pine evergreens, eucalyptus seed pods, silver brunia balls and magnolia leaves. For vases I used different silver plated and pewter containers we picked up on various flea market expeditions earlier in the year.

Placed on a seasonally toned red tablecloth, and accented with a “runner” of magnolia leaves, gold toned hazelnuts and lots of candles, the overall look was quite…seasonal! And lovely.

The dinner was a success, the flowers were a hit, and now it’s time to put on my fake mustache and relax with the fam!

Happy Holidays everyone!!!

Little Ones Exploring Flowers and Greens

Some of our left over blooms got a second life thanks to my sister-in-law Jennie and her preschool class of 3 ½ year olds. The fun activity was a sensory exploration on a light table. Jennie noted that “they tore them apart, smelled the petals and felt them on their skin. They explored the inside and outside and inside of each flower.” I hear that the hydrangeas were the hit of the day!

I’ve got to get a light table!

Thanks for sharing Jennie!

Fall Wedding at MyMoon - Professional Photos by Stephanie Egan

A big thanks to Stephanie Egan for capturing the amazing Erin and Thomas on their special day. We loved the pictures and wanted to share a few from the photographer's website.

Congrats to the lovely couple!

Erin & Thomas’ Wedding at MyMoon BK

Earlier this fall we had the pleasure of working with Erin and Thomas on their Williamsburg based wedding. The couple, who live in the neighborhood, chose the amazing My Moon for their ceremony and reception venue, and everyone got ready at the beautiful Wythe Hotel.

Erin and Thomas came up with a romantic autumnal travel-themed palette for their wedding celebration. The Bride’s family made custom runners to serve as table name, each printed with the name of a different city that the couple had traveled to. The Bride and Groom collected vintage suitcases to serve as the seating card and gift card envelope areas, and featured lots of pictures from their youth and travels, along with TONS of New England desserts and a doughnut cake.

Working off of Erin and Thomas’ invitations (from 49 Designs), I used dark gold geometric accents for decorating dozens of vases, hurricane lamps and votives. To add a bit of drama to the centerpieces, we decided to use vases that were cut from wine bottles (by yours truly), and then added gold toned marks and lines, bringing a little level of detail to the base. Coupled with vintage bud vases, tons of candles, burlap runners and the natural glow of the venue, the overall look was gorgeous and unique.

To welcome their guests, the couple asked me to create a welcome sign to be placed at the My Moon gate. I incorporated lots of design details from the invitation, along with a message from the couple, and gold and sangria colors. The sign was topped with a healthy load of greens, pretty much ensuring that no one missed it!

The flowers that were used included dahlias, anemones, ranunculus, scabiosa seed pods, chinese lanterns, straw flowers, garden roses, thistle, roses, along with accents of rosehips, winter berries, kumquats, wildflowers and sage green eucalyptus leaves (and probably a few others).

It was a pleasure to work with this talented and creative couple. The DIY items were executed perfectly, and I’d consider outsourcing all fabric painting jobs to Erin’s mom in the future! They had a great vision, and I was so happy to be able to help them achieve it.

Congrats guys!

Ali & Matt at Onteora Mountain House in Woodstock N.Y.

We recently had the pleasure of working with Ali and Matt on their mountaintop wedding at Onteora House in Woodstock, N.Y. This Catskills venue is just amazing. The ceremony and reception areas were set among giant mountaintop trees and overlooked deep valley views, which just started showing a touch of early autumn hues. The day started off a bit overcast and chilly but, as if on schedule, the skies cleared up and only a whisper of spirited wind remained for the wedding ceremony.

After close to a year of working with the bride, it was truly exciting to see how wonderfully everything came together. We had designed a soft color palette with dark punches of burgundy and sangria. The centerpieces consisted of authentic vintage Ball and Mason jars I had picked up at various flea markets and auctions, as well as Ali’s collection of bud vases which nicely complemented  the jars.

The bouquets and centerpieces featured a mix of dahlias, anemones, roses, ranunculus, scabiosa blooms and seed pods, thistle, berries, lambs ears, eucalyptus, and rosehips.

Each table radiated elements of elegance and wildflower freedom.

On a side note, Onteora House is a great venue with great spirit. While setting up for a wedding, a florist gets to sneak around a venue, overhear lots of chatter and see how things work.  I can honestly say that the people working at this venue seem to be one happy bunch. It was a joy to be in the midst of competent employees who got along with one another and appeared to be having great time working to ensure that the couple’s needs were met.

It was an amazing wedding and I took great pleasure watching the guests gasp at the breathtaking mountaintop views. So fun!

Vanessa & Evan’s Wedding at iCi Restaurant in Brooklyn

This weekend I had the pleasure of working on Vanessa and Evan’s wedding at iCi Restaurant in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.

The couple contacted me several months ago, and I immediately loved their vision. Playing off of iCi’s decor and light-and-airy look, we came up with a look that channeled a little bit “romantic”, a bit “vintage” and a lot of “bohemian chic”. Playing off of this general styling, I spent the spring and summer months trekking around flea markets and vintage shops, and keeping an eye out for great vases, chalices and brass boxes.

These brassy containers, coupled with lots of candles, light green table runners and flowers in a romantic soft color palette, all came together perfectly.

The ceremony was held outdoors on the iCi patio, which we decorated with a branchy wedding arch draped with greens and candles.

Vanessa and Evan were absolutely lovely to work with, and I can’t wait to the the professional pics our talented photographer friend Cozbi Jean!

Congrats to the happy couple!

Photo Shoot – wreaths, garlands, moss and FLOWER DRESS!

A few months ago, a fabulous wedding photog friend, Judy Pak, asked me if I’d like to work on a flower inspired photo shoot…”Are you kidding! Of course!”. Being bonkers about all things flowers, I jumped at the opportunity to make flower wreaths, garlands a fabulous full flower dress!

It took about a month or so to get the logistics down pat. Although I’ve build structures out of flowers before, a dress for an actual person comes with a whole other set of considerations…most of which consist of keeping the flowers alive and ensuring that the lovely model doesn’t look like a giant flower ball.

Working with the lovely Shuanne Cappel, of Styled to Wear, we came up with a vision and color options, and I got to work constructing the wire frame.

I was thrilled with the final outcome, and although the dress ended up weighing close to 40 lbs, thankfully most of that weight rested on the model's hips. The gorgeous Christine was a trooper and did a phenomenal job!

Along with the dress, I also created the wreaths, garland and the other flower details.

It was amazing to work with such talented professionals! Can’t wait to do it again!

A big thanks also to Dakota Heman for the gorgeous hair, and Andrew Colvin for the amazing makeup!

Romantic Book Themed Wedding

We had a lovely time working with Bride Amanda on her cool, book-themed wedding vision. The ceremony and reception were held at the One if By Land, Two if By Sea Restaurant in the West Village.

Amanda, who is quite the "Renaissance Woman", came up with a great idea for centerpiece accents and a whole general mood for the wedding.  She gathered hundreds of books too use as wedding decor.  Using lots of the new construction tools that I've accumulated, I drilled holes in some of the books in which I could place the centerpiece vases. Using a 5" diameter core drill, we removed a "core sample" of a book and replaced it with a vase filled with lovely flowers for the wedding day.  Flowers, books, silver tones, and lace came together for a lovely complete design at One if By Land.

Amanda and Dennis had a wonderful time celebrating with their loving family and dear friends. Their wedding was quintessentially romantic.

We were so happy to be able to work with the bride and groom, and wish them all the best in their lives together.

Kickstarter Holiday Party

Working with Kickstarter on their holiday party was a pure blast.

We started off by hoisting up large tree limbs and suspending them from the ceiling over the dinner table in the Kickstarter Lower East Side headquarter offices. Each branch was decorated with berries, cones, paper ornaments and clear glass bulbs. In between the wood branches we hung strings of globe lights.

The tables were decorated with an eclectic mix of vintage mason jars, gold toned walnuts and berries, magnolia leaves, silver brunia, red berries and red pomegranates.

The 80+ foot table was iluminated with lots of candles and draped cafe lights. We also added dozens of candle votives to the long barn wood wall lining the event space.

The party was a smash, and we were so happy to be a part of making it feel festive for the holiday season!

Music Inspired Flowers

We recently had the pleasure of creating some exciting arrangements for the Diller-Quaile Music School annual gala at The Harmonie Club in NYC.

We chose music as our inspiration, for obvious reasons, and used a lovely spring-time palette accented with gold-toned wire and musical notes.

We also created a two-foot tall treble clef using greens and green flowers as a statement piece in the bar area.

The arrangements featured a mix of cherry blossoms, quince, hydrangea, dog wood, ranunculus and tulips.

The gala was a hit, and we were thrilled with how it all came together.
